5 Years Coaching Experience
HOME LIFE: Kristen grew up in Wisconsin and Ohio. She has one older brother, who still lives in Wisconsin. Kristen was a multi-sport athlete as a kid, but as she got older softball became the focus. She played in winter leagues, high school and on summer travel teams. Kristen met her husband, Janos, when she moved to Sheridan in 2008. They have 2 dogs and love spending time in the Bighorn Mountains, in the garden and at local events.
EDUCATION: After graduating from Kent Theodore Roosevelt High School in Ohio, Kristen attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She majored in journalism and after receiving her bachelor's degree in 2008, moved to Sheridan. In 2017, she completed her MBA from the University of Wyoming. She now works as the publisher of The Sheridan Press.
SOFTBALL CAREER: After starting as on the varsity softball team throughout high school, Kristen walked on to the Northwestern University softball team. She played outfield, catcher and primarily helped the team as a pinch runner and hitter. In 2006, the Wildcats finished in second place in the Women's College World Series. The team made another WCWS appearance in 2007. Kristen still enjoys playing softball, participating in the adult rec leagues with her colleagues at The Sheridan Press each summer.
COACHING CAREER: Kristen began coaching in the summers while in college at Northwestern. She coached two summers with the Evanston Express, a 12U travel softball team. In addition, she coached at a sports summer camp for two years, teaching kids to play soccer, baseball/softball and basketball. Since moving back to Sheridan, she's been itching to get back into coaching.
WHY I COACH: My coaches and my teammates have had a lasting impact on me since I was a little kid. They helped shape who I am today, instilling strong core values and pushing me to be my best. Team sports can help establish a foundation of hard work, dedication and commitment in kids, along with perseverance, strength, teamwork and an active lifestyle — all super important. I miss being part of a dedicated sports team and I love helping young athletes gain new skills and confidence as they develop.
SOFTBALL IDOLS: My teammates at Northwestern will always have special places in my heart. I stay in contact with many of them, cheering them on as they conquer the world. Having that support of strong women makes them all my heroes.
